The Swim Instructor is responsible for teaching swimming skills to swimmers of various ages and skill levels effectively while ensuring safety in and around the water. The Swim Instructor will develop effective swimming lessons based on student skill level, instruct individuals or small groups of students in the water, demonstrate various swimming techniques, observe students performing the strokes and providing feedback to help them improve, provide constant supervision to keep all swimmers safe, completing documentation and deciding when to move students to the next level, enforcing water safety and pool rules, and sharing feedback with parents on the sessions
Responsibilities:
The Swim Instructor is responsible to:
- Instruct participants for both swimming and safety skills in water.
- Provide a fun and educational swim lesson experience for both participants and parents.
- Observe and enforce all rules and regulations of the facility to prevent accidents or emergency situations.
- Educate class participants on the rules of the facility.
- Provide exemplary customer service ensuring the best swim lesson experience for the participants and parents.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills including communication skills with students, parents and facility staff.
- Attend all training sessions and any additional staff meetings.
- Complete all appropriate lesson paperwork during shift.
- The Swim Instructor will be supervised by the Camp Director. It is a part time 10 week summer position.
Qualifications:
The Swim Instructor will possess the following qualifications:
- Strong swimming skills
- Proficiency in various swimming techniques (e.g., freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly)
- Ability to break down swimming techniques into understandable steps
- Knowledge of water safety protocols, including rescue techniques and emergency procedures
- Safety-minded approach
- Patience, compassion and encouragement
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Alertness and attention to detail
- Experience working with elementary-age school children.
